Caret Browsing in Internet Explorer: Select Text with keyboard
Many of you must be using CTRL+C, CTRL+V very often in your office documents, notepad and many other applications. One of the often used application is “Browser” like Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox (FF) etc. Sometimes you arrive at a situation where you want to copy some “TEXT” to copy and paste or do some manipulation on the text.
Normally you use a mouse to select text in a browser like IE or FF. But like many others you might have faced problem when you try to do this, i.e copy text using a mouse. Once you select the selected text, it disappears once you leave the mouse and sometimes, you get words as selected text instead of the complete sentence.
So there is a workaround for this problem.
The magical solution to this problem is “Caret Browsing” as called in IE or FF. All you have to do is press “F7”. This works only in IE, FF. I don’t know about other browsers. It didn’t work in Opera, Google Chrome as i tested.
Otherwise in IE, you can just select View —-> CaretBrowsing. Or, simply press the “F7” functional button.
Now you have the option of “CaretBrowsing” enabled. If you simply want to switch of this “CaretBrowsing” option, then simply press “F7” again. You have this option disabled again.
Now if you want to select text on any page, move the cursor where you want to start copying the text. There will be a blinking “|” cursor at the position where you have put your cursor.
Then select SHIFT + left arrow (<-) buttons to select text to the left of the cursor (or) select SHIFT + right arrow(->) button to select text to the right of the cursor. You can use UP and DOWN arrow buttons also to select text 1 line above or below respectively. Look at the animation below how it is done!
