Windows 7! RTM Available & Price

Many users of Windows XP & Vista, might be aware of the new OS, Windows 7. Well, the OS has reached its final stage and the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) or the Final Version is released.

Some important future dates of Windows 7 are here:

  • RC (Release Candidate) : Windows 7 Build 7100: Aug 20th, 2009 (Download Ends)
  • RTM (Release to Manufacturing): Windows 7 Build 7600: Aug 6th onwards:
  • GA(General Availability): Oct 22nd.

According to the www.windowsteamblog.com, the availability of RTM depends on the categories of users.

For Partners & OEMs:

ISV (Independent software vendor) and IHV (Independent hardware vendor) Partners will be able to download Windows 7 RTM from Microsoft Connect or MSDN on August 6th.

Microsoft Partner Program Gold/Certified Members will be able to download Windows 7 RTM in English through the Microsoft Partner Network (MPN) Portal on August 16th. By October 1st, the remaining languages will become available to download.

Microsoft Action Pack Subscribers will be about to download Windows 7 RTM in English starting August 23rd. By October 1st, the remaining languages will become available to download.

OEMs will receive Windows 7 RTM software images beginning approximately 2 days after we officially RTM

For Business Customers:

Windows 7 RTM in English starting August 7th
Volume License customers without a SA license will be able to purchase Windows 7 through Volume Licensing on September 1st.

For IT Professionals:

There are a few ways you can get Windows 7 RTM. IT Professionals with TechNet Subscriptions will be able to download Windows 7 RTM in English on August 6th and remaining languages by October 1st.

For Developers:

Developers with MSDN Subscriptions will be able to download Windows 7 RTM in English on August 6th and remaining languages by October 1st.

For Consumers:
Windows 7 will be in retail stores and shipping on new PCs starting October 22nd. If you pre-ordered Windows 7, it should be delivered sometime around the October 22nd timeframe (depends on the retailer).

According to the Microsoft store, Windows 7 pricing is as follows.

Upgrade:

  • Home Premium (or) Professional : ~ $200.
  • Ultimate : ~$220

Full:

  • Home Premium: ~$200
  • Professional: ~$300
  • Ultimate:~$320

Difference of features in different editions:

  1. All the editions have options to view your TV shows, provided you have the additional hardware, with Internet TV.
  2. WinXP mode ( a special feature to run existing XP productivity applications without trouble) is not available with Home Premium.
  3. BitLocker security & support for switching to different languages is available with Ultimate edition only.

Running Windows Vista?

If you have Windows Vista, you can purchase Windows 7 Upgrade versions. You can do a clean install (back up your files, clean install, and reinstall your applications) or an in-place upgrade (Windows 7 installs over Windows Vista).

Running earlier versions?

If you have Windows XP or Windows 2000, you can purchase Windows 7 Upgrade versions. But you must back up your files, clean install, and reinstall your applications.
